Nora Lafi (Istres, bei Marseille, 1965) ist Historikerin (Promotion, 1999; Habilitation, 2011), die sich auf das Studium des Osmanischen Reiches und der Gesellschaften des Nahen Ostens und Nordafrikas spezialisiert hat. Sie arbeitet als Senior Research Fellow am Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient in Berlin. Sie leitet das internationale und kollaborative Forschungsprojekt HISDEMAB der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft zum Thema der Historizität der Demokratie in der arabischen und muslimischen Welt. Außerdem ist sie Privatdozentin an der Freien Universität Berlin (Graduate School Muslim Culture and Societies). Sie war 2020 Senior Fellow des Max Weber Kollegs an der Universität Erfurt (Forschungsgruppe Religion und Urbanität). Gemeinsam mit U. Freitag leitet sie das Projekt Cities Compared: Governance, Consultative Mechanisms and Plurality project within the EUME programme (Forum Transregionale Studien)”.
