Musa Ibrahim joins Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) as a doctoral student in 2014. He wrote his dissertation titled “Sharia implementation, filmmaking and Muslim discourses: Analysis of contestations and negotiations between Ulama and Kannywood filmmakers in northern Nigeria” under the supervisory team of Dr. Franz Kogelmann and Professor Dr. Rüdiger Seesemann both of the University of Bayreuth, and Professor Brian Larkin of Columbia University, New York.

His current research interest is Islam, media and public life in West Africa. He had his MA in Religious Studies from University of Cape Town, South Africa and BA from ABU-Zaria, Nigeria. He currently teaches a course on “sharia and filmmaking in Nigeria” under the Department of Islamwissenchaften, University of Bayreuth. His most recent publication is: 2017 “Conflict and Violence at the Crossroad of Religion and ‘New’ Media: Periscoping Faith-based Crisis through the Eyes of Camera in the Sharia-age of Northern Nigeria.” Journal for the Study of the Religions of Africa and its Diaspora 3: 91-109.
