Islamwissenschaft
David Malluche joined the department of Islamic Studies in Bayreuth in November 2020 as teaching representative for Dr. Georg Leube. He received his B.A. in Ethnology and Arabic and Islamic Language- and Cultural Studies at the University of Bayreuth in 2015 and his M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2018. From November 2019 to October 2020 he held a CRIA scholarship as a postgraduate researcher in the project CAPSAHARA and studied at ISCTE and Nova Universities in Lisbon, Portugal. Since April 2021 he is Jonior Fellow at BIGSAS in Bayreuth. His research interests focus on the social and cultural history and contemporary politics of the western regions of the Sahara and the Sahel. His PhD project deals with social and political activism and identity (trans-)formation processes concerning the Ḥarāṭīn (Hassaniya-Arabic-speaking people of slave origin) population of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
